On 20-21 May, the
report of the Commission for Africa formed part of
debate at the Ditchely Conference, 'Security, Development
and Human Rights: Shaping the Emerging International
Doctrine'. The conference was organised by the UK Cabinet
Office, Department for International Development and
the Centre for Strategic Studies, Washington, in cooperation
with the Ditchley Foundation.
Among elements of the conference
debate, the recommendations in the Commission report
were considered alongside
other key recent reports, including In Larger Freedom,
the Report of the UN Secretary-General; Our Shared
Respondibility, the report of the Secretary-General's
High-level Panel on Threats, Challenges and Change;
and Investing in Development, the report of the
UN Millennium Project. The debates looked in particular
in security issues in the reports and forward to
the 14-16 September 2005 UN Summit.
