If you would like support with teaching ideas about the issues covered in the Commission for Africa report you might consider contacting your local Development Education Centre.
Development Education Centres (DECs) assist teachers and pupils in learning about our globalised, interdependent world and how to 'think globally and act locally'. Centres can provide advice and support, and many offer a library service and continuing professional development. |
You can find contact details of DECs across the UK on the Global Dimension website - following the link to “local support”.
There are many African diaspora community groups and organisations that may also be able to offer advice and support or school visits. To find a list of organisations visit the Development Education Association website and look under the details of member organisations.
Many international charities also run school speaker services. Speakers can come to a lesson or assembly and talk about the work of their organisation, or about particular development themes. You can find a list of charities offering this service on the Global Dimension website - and follow the link to “schools speaker service”. |
You can find details of additional teaching
and learning materials about Africa, the six Commission for
Africa themes, and links to the curriculum on the website Global
Dimension.

If your school is planning to make a link
with a school in Africa you can find information about ensuring
partnerships are based on equality, mutual learning and curriculum
development by contacting your local DEC (as above) or find
out about linking with a school in Africa on the British
Council or BBC
Worldclass websites.
