Parallèlement à la série de séminaires indépendants réalisés dans les pays du G8 et aux consultations effectuées par la Commission en Afrique, Bob Geldof a également invité des penseurs et praticiens africains importants à partager leurs perspectives durant les débats. Richard Dowden, le Président de la société royale africaine, a coordonné la série de lettres. Il a été demandé à chaque personne de répondre en moins de 1 000 mots aux trois questions suivantes :
